Sylvester Bai wins his first race.

Written by Team ANZ Bank at 22:12 2/12-2011

Even though several riders tried to break away, no one managed to keep it going in Esquel Climbs. The strongest riders in the peloton stayed together in the leading group. The finishing climb became a secretion of riders, until Sylvester Bai (Team ANZ Bank) and Carel Sneijers (Belgina) were alone in the front. As it looked as they were heading for a sprint on the top, Carel Sneijers suddenly could follow Sylvester Bai who climbed the final kilometre alone. The audience cheered as Sylvester Bai crossed the line with his arms raised high. Carel Sneijers came in a little later as second. The third place were terminated by a group of 4 who sprinted a long. Godo Figueiredo was fastest in the group, and safely took the third place.
I'm still in shock. When the attack started earlier today, I didn't expect to end up as winner, said the happy Team ANZ Bank rider, Sylvester Bai. Only at the very end, I realized that this could be my chance, and so it was.
The manager of Team ANZ Bank was proud of his rider today. Sylvester Bai has been training and preparing himself for this race. It's an important victory - both for Sylvester Bai but also for the team.
